Bagel Shops Make James Beard Awards History Starship Bagel (Dallas, TX) and Chef Miles Odell of Odell’s Bagel (Denver, CO) have been named 2026 James Beard Award semifinalists. This is the second consecutive nomination for Starship Bagel for Outstanding Bakery. Last year, they made history as the first bagel shop ever nominated in the category, ultimately earning finalist honors. Chef Miles, who opened Odell’s in late 2024, is a semifinalist for Best Chef: Mountain (CO, ID, MT, UT, WY). This is a remarkable achievement for both businesses, and another sign that the bagel has officially moved from humble bread to the national culinary conversation.
